Stainless Steel Construction While the kettle is made of food-grade stainless steel, it is normal for some small spots or rust to appear on the bottom after the first use, particularly if your local water quality is hard. To descale and clean the kettle, fill it with a mixture of 1 cup of vinegar or lemon juice and 1 cup of water, then boil and let it sit for 2 hours before wiping clean and rinsing.
